DocSend to Excel

Download a spreadsheet shared through DocSend. Get the original Excel file when the sender allows downloads, or a PDF of every sheet when they don't. Free, no signup, no extension.

Optional: Provide your email and password if the document is protected.

Not everything shared on DocSend is a slide deck. Financial models, cap tables, pipeline sheets and budgets arrive as spreadsheets, and DocSend treats them differently from a deck: there are no page images to flip through, only a read-only preview in the browser, and a Download button only if the sender left it on. DeckExtract handles both cases from the same form.

  • Downloads on: you get the original workbook (.xlsx, .xls or .csv), formulas and all.
  • Downloads off: you get a PDF of every sheet as DocSend renders it, ready to archive and annotate.

Paste the link above, add the email or passcode the sender gave you if the link asks for one, and click Extract.

How to Download a DocSend Spreadsheet

  1. Copy the DocSend link of the spreadsheet (docsend.com/view/...), or the document link from inside a Space
  2. Paste it into the form above
  3. Enter the email or passcode if the link is gated. DeckExtract completes the same access step your browser would
  4. Download the file. The original Excel workbook when the sender allows downloads, otherwise a PDF of the sheets

Original Excel File or PDF: What Decides

DocSend gives the sender a per-document setting that controls whether viewers can download the file. For a spreadsheet, that single switch decides what anyone, including DeckExtract, can get:

  • ✅ Downloading allowed: DocSend serves the uploaded file, and DeckExtract relays it unchanged. Formulas, multiple tabs, number formats, everything the sender uploaded.
  • ✅ Downloading disabled: DocSend shows the sheet through a live HTML preview. DeckExtract prints that preview to a PDF, one page per sheet section, so you keep a faithful copy of the displayed values.
  • ❌ No preview and no download: when DocSend's own viewer shows "This spreadsheet is not available", the preview export is gone and downloads are off. There is nothing behind the link to extract, and the only fix is asking the sender for the original file.

A PDF of a financial model is enough for most diligence work: the numbers, the structure and the assumptions tabs are all there. When you need the formulas, ask the sender to allow downloading on the link and run it again; the same link then returns the workbook.

Built for Financial Models, Cap Tables and Budgets

Investors and analysts receive spreadsheets through DocSend during diligence more often than through any other channel, and those links expire or get deactivated once a round closes. DeckExtract lets you archive the model the day it arrives, in the format DocSend permits, next to the pitch deck and the rest of the data room.

  • VC and angel diligence: keep the financial model and cap table version you evaluated
  • PE and real estate: rent rolls, budgets and operating models shared as sheets
  • Finance and FP&A teams: budgets and forecasts received from partners through DocSend
  • Legal and compliance: a dated copy of the figures a decision was based on

Papermark Spreadsheets

Papermark shares spreadsheets through two viewers: a default grid rendered from the sheet data, and an advanced Excel viewer that embeds the workbook. DeckExtract reads both and returns a PDF with every tab laid out with its column letters and row numbers, so a Papermark link works the same way as a DocSend one.

Why DeckExtract for DocSend Spreadsheets

  • The only converter that handles sheets. DocSend-to-PDF tools capture slide images, and a spreadsheet has none, so they fail. DeckExtract follows DocSend's own spreadsheet path instead.
  • Original file first. When DocSend exposes the workbook, you get the workbook, not a screenshot of it.
  • Gated links work. Email-gated and passcode-protected sheets open with the credentials the sender gave you.
  • No extension, nothing to install. Paste the link, get the file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download a DocSend spreadsheet as an Excel file?

Yes, when the sender left downloading on for that file. Paste the link into the form above, enter the email or passcode the link asks for, and DeckExtract returns the original workbook (.xlsx, .xls or .csv) exactly as it was uploaded, formulas included. When the sender turned downloads off, DocSend only exposes a read-only preview of the sheet, and DeckExtract returns that preview as a PDF instead.

What do I get when the sender disabled downloads?

A PDF of the spreadsheet as DocSend renders it. DocSend shows a download-disabled spreadsheet through a live preview rather than page images, and DeckExtract prints that preview to a PDF you can keep, annotate and forward. Formulas are not recoverable from a preview, only the displayed values.

Why does DocSend say "This spreadsheet is not available"?

DocSend builds a separate preview export for every spreadsheet it hosts, and on some files that export no longer exists. When DocSend itself shows "This spreadsheet is not available" and the sender has downloads off, there is no file at all behind the link, for DeckExtract or for anyone else. Ask the sender for the original file or for a fresh upload.

Does this work for a spreadsheet inside a DocSend data room?

Yes. Paste the document link from inside the Space (docsend.com/view/<room>/d/<document>) to export that one file, or paste the Space link to export every document in the room as a ZIP, spreadsheets included.

Does DeckExtract download Papermark spreadsheets too?

Yes. A spreadsheet shared through Papermark comes back as a PDF with every sheet tab laid out with its column letters and row numbers, whether Papermark shows it in its default viewer or in its advanced Excel viewer.

Is the DocSend to Excel download free?

Yes. A spreadsheet counts as one extraction against the free plan's 5 per month, the same as any deck. DeckExtract Solo (9.99 a month, cancel anytime) removes the monthly cap. Funds that archive models automatically use the API or the MCP server.
